The investment Into the town took another foodie turn last week as Urban Burgers became the newest business to call Barnsley home. We took a trip down to The Glass Works to see what all the fuss was about!
Situated just around the corner from Coffee Boy, the first thing that hits you is the sheer size of the restaurant. Just like their menu, the location has been clearly built with freshness in mind. The light colour scheme welcomes you in from the winter cold, plus with their variety of booths, tables and stool seating, there’s no doubt that this place will become a food hotspot.
It’s also clear that they have quite a lot of confidence in their ability! Upon entering the building, look to your left to see all you need to know about the level in which they hold their burger and fries.
The Barnsley restaurant is the new location of the local burger chain who have already been creating a buzz across other parts of

The ‘Burger Masters’ at the fryer ensure everything is cooked to order. Their beef is all locally sourced, with their now famous skin-on-fries also chipped daily right here at the restaurant. We especially loved the foil wrapping that acts as a sleeping blanket for all that burger goodness. The cheese, sauces and toppings are not even attempting to escape thanks to this simple, but effective, choice of finish.
We chatted with the restaurant manager who was quick to let us know that it’s all about “great food and great people”, and when asked about why Urban wanted to bring their burger party to Barnsley said “we put a poll out on Instagram, and we answered Barnsley's prayers!”
Alongside their unreal cheese sauce which rivals any you've previously sampled, the local chain are also sorting you out with veggie patties that are homemade by the team in-house. In terms of sides, you are spoilt for choice with their standard, paprika or hallumi fries, maybe onion rings are more up your street, or even one of their mouthwatering milkshakes they’ve become so famous for will hit the spot?
The team have also installed two “freestyle drink” machines (refillable) which allows you to mix and match the flavours of all the big soft drink companies. You can even download the app and pour straight from your phone for a “hands-free” experience. Just in case you're using Urban to get your night started, they are also offering a variety of beers, lagers and ciders alongside your order.
One thing is for sure is that the freshness of their menu cannot be disputed. The fact that you can see your order being created via their open kitchen proves this fact. This is another big step in the right direction for Barnsley!
