As we start to enter the festive period and begin to prepare our goodbyes to 2022, it’s only natural to look towards a fresh year of birthday parties, anniversary celebrations and the variety of other reasons to get together in 2023.
With that in mind, we’ve been scouring the town centre to bring you five locations that include bookable functions rooms right in the heart of Barnsley.
The Picture House Venue
Situated on Eastgate, The Picture House has been under new management since 2020 with a huge effort being made cement this spacious hire as a premier venue in our town centre. Formally known at “Citrus Rooms”, the location has already proved to be popular for birthdays, weddings and are now looking for bookings for next year!

AJ’S Lounge Bar
Found on Church Street across from the Town Hall, AJ’S is one of the new kids on the Barnsley block. Opening in April, the redeveloped location specialises in cocktails and delivering quality, live entertainment making it the perfect venue for entertaining guests who like to mix their martinis and music.

Old No 7
Who wouldn’t want a great together in such a historic place? Known as one of Barnsley’s oldest buildings, Old No 7 is an absolute staple when it comes to the pub scene in our town. Below the pub we all know and love is their very own bookable venue called “The Cellar Bar” which offers a free, intimate location perfect for family celebrations. They even made it into the Good Beer Guide 2023…and sell Percy Turner pork pies!

Funky Buddha
Based on the top floor of Soul Lounge on Market Hill, Funky Buddha has for years lead the way in Barnsley functions. With its free spacious room, private toilets and trendy, modern interior, the venue is perfect for live music and entertaining a large number of people. You also get your own entrance to the upstairs so your guests won’t have any trouble finding their way to your party.

Tabu
Situated across from Funky Buddha is this new wine bar born out of the former Hill 16 bar at the top of the Victorian Arcade. Based above Tabu is their new free-to-hire Havana Lounge venue which boasts picture perfect decor, an extensive drinks menu, plus you can also order in food platters to ensure your guests won’t go hungry!
