The sun will be out, the lagers are on ice, and it’s time for one of the biggest multi-venue music festivals across the North. Barnsley Live is BACK for 2023, and here’s everything you need to know!
Moving into it's sixth year, Barnsley Live has become the ultimate showcase of Barnsley music. From acoustic sets, to belting rock bands, this years festival is set to be the biggest yet with new venues added to the days schedule.
When is it taking place?
It’s happening tomorrow! (Saturday 17th June) we’ve been blessed with sunshine leading up to the festival, and with more sun planned for Saturday, Barnsley Live will be the perfect place to grab your mates, a lager, and listen to the music on offer!
Where is it?
Being one of the biggest multi-venue music festivals around, the short answer is “everywhere”. Based within the town centre, 22 music venues are taking part in this years festival, collectively housing over 200 musicians across the day. As a festival constantly upping their game, Barnsley Live welcome The Civic and recently opened Butterfield’s Bar as new locations in 2023.
If you’re travelling to Barnsley from neighbouring towns and cities, the festival venues are just a two minute walk from the Interchange.
Who’s playing?
Like always, there’s a plethora of music on show this year! From heavy metal to indie, from acoustic solo artists to folk bands, the festival has something for everyone! You can even download their free app right now to see which musicians are playing across the different venues to help build your own schedule for the day.
Why is the festival important?
Not only is Barnsley Live an outstanding exhibition of everything amazing about our local music scene, but it also acts as a major fundraiser for local organisations. Each year the festival picks a charity based in the town to raise awareness and vital funds for. This year, Barnsley Hospice are the chosen ones!
So, how much does it cost?
It’s absolutely free to enter the venues across the town centre!
What else is going off around the town centre?
If heading into one of the bars isn’t your thing, then The Glass Works stage may be a bit of you! Once the Barnsley Live parade has made it's way down to the new shopping complex, the outdoor stage in the centre of Barnsley will kick into gear which will signal the opening of the festival.
As well as that, we at Best of Barnsley will of course be reporting on the event, chatting to musicians and the festival attendees.
It's also important to point out that not every bar will be hosting music, which means that some locations will still be a perfect place for a few drinks, nibbles and a catch up.
Barnsley Live is one of the biggest events on the calendar; please note that the town centre will be busier that normal due to the festival. Please drink responsibly, and have an awesome time supporting the Outstanding talent we have in our town.
