MAYhem is a free street theatre and circus festival coming to a high street, market square or park near you over three successive weekends in May.
Aimed at all ages, the council have teamed up with company Yellow Bus events to bring their unique brand of entertainment to the area. The mini-festival will bring to the borough street performers who regularly appear at Covent Garden, Glastonbury Festival, Edinburgh Festival and major events around the world.
This is where you catch the performances across the town:
Cudworth Park on Saturday 4 May
Penistone Market Barn on Sunday 5 May
Hoyland Town Square on Saturday 11 May
Royston Park on Sunday 12 May
Goldthorpe’s Horse and Groom Square on Saturday 18 May
Wombwell High Street on Sunday 19 May
Aimed at all ages, there will be a variety of exciting and fun acts on show, most of them from the Yorkshire area. You can enjoy circus-style performances in the towns public venues and "walkabouts" by wandering performers.
Matt O’Neill, Barnsley Council’s executive director for growth and sustainability, said:
“We want to ensure people living right across our borough have the chance to enjoy interactive and memorable cultural experiences, and I’m looking forward to seeing what chaotic fun Yellow Bus bring to our high streets and parks."
Featuring the likes of Felicity Footloose, Granny Tourismo and Dr Pandemonius Fish, The entertainment will run from 11am to 4pm each day.
The MAYhem festival is being funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
